Local Health Officials and other stakeholders will be involved in a National Symposium this week, as part of activities to observe World No Tobacco Day under the theme “Tobacco and Heart Disease”.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment will host the National Symposium at the Methodist Church Hall, beginning at 9am.

Chief Health Promotion Officer, Patsy Wyllie says the session will look at the ill effects that smoking can have on the health of individuals.

Family and General Practitioner Dr. Conrad Nedd said Medical Officials will continue to advocate for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption here.

He expressed concern that there has been an increase in the number of deaths related to cardiovascular disease.
