Courtney Williams, one of two Athletes on an Olympic Solidarity Scholarship in the United States sprinted into the record books by breaking the 200-metres national record on his quest to Pan Am Games Qualification.

Friday 5, June 2015, at the 2015 Texas State University Friday Night Lights All Comers Meet, Courtney lived up to long held expectations in the 200m when he clocked 20.59 seconds, qualifying for the 200m event in the Pan Am Games and breaking the national record in the process.

The original 200m mark of 20.76 was set on 19 May 1995 by Eswort Coombs at the NJCAA Championships in Odessa, United States.

Kineke Alexander, who has already qualified for the 200m and 400m at Pan Am Games, was also on the winner’s podium running first in the 400m with 52.91secs and third in the 200m with 23.44 secs.

Courtney and Kineke will next be competing with team mate, Brandon Valentine-Parris in the St. Kitts Nevis’ National Championships scheduled from 13 – 14 June 2015, after which they will join other locally based athletes in Barbados for that country’s National Championships scheduled for 19 – 21 June 2015.

TASVG congratulates Courtney Williams and looks forward to continued and greater performances in the future.
