Pregnant women are Urged to take extra precautions to protect themselves from the chikungunya virus.

A medical practitioner here has urged pregnant women to take extra precautions to protect themselves from the chikungunya virus.

The word of caution came from Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health Wellness and the Environment, Dr. Michael Goodluck, during NBC’s Views On Issues programme last Sunday.

Dr. Goodluck said the virus can be passed from the Mother to her baby.

The Ministry of Health Wellness and the Environment says there are over seven hundred confirmed cases of chikungunya in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
