Ambassador of the Russian Federation to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Nikolay Smirnov said his Government will later this year make a donation to Small Island States from which this country is expected to benefit.

He made this statement during a press briefing which was held on Friday for the handing over a quantity of Medical Equipment from the Government of the Russian Federation.

Ambassador Smirnov said the United Nations have stipulated 2014 as the year for the development of Small Island States and Russia will donate five hundred thousand U.S Dollars to this program.

He said the donation will be made during an international conference which takes place in September 2014.

Ambassador Smirnov said while St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Russia are far apart geographically he hopes both countries can develop close diplomatic relations.

He also commended the country for the construction of its very own international airport.
