Immunization prevents illness, disability and death from vaccine preventable diseases.
The statement was made by PAHO’s Country Programme Specialist Anique Wilson as St. Vincent and the Grenadines host activities to observe vaccination week of the Americas.
Miss Wilson said the seasonal influenza vaccine is provided in most countries on an annual basis and noted that the Human Papilloma Virus or HPV vaccine is the newest of such programs.
Miss Wilson said members of the national vaccination teams will be hosting a series of events which include walk in immunization days.
She is urging persons traveling for mass gatherings to check with the necessary authorities to determine possible vaccine update.
Activities to observe vaccination week of the Americas are being held under the theme “Vaccination: Give it your best shot”.
