SVG Distillers, the sole rum distillery here has handed over a cheque of 50-thousand to Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.

The donation will go towards the restoration of the Caratal Bridge located in Georgetown. The Caratal Bridge was damaged during the April floods in 2011 and subsequently collapsed during the recent flood in December.

Export Promotion Manager and Public Relations Officer of SVG Distillers, Phillipa Greaves handed over the cheque to Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves. Greaves was accompanied by Chairman of the Board of Directors of SVG Distillers Nigel Greaves.

Prime Minister Gonsalves expressed gratitude to SVG Distillers for their contribution. He noted that a project was already in place to rebuild the bridge however the scope of work has to be altered since the bridge is now destroyed.

He said the financial contribution will go towards the installation of the Bailey Bridges so that heavy vehicles can now be able to pass.

Export Promotion Manager and Public Relations Officer of SVG Distillers, Phillipa Greaves said the company is aware of the hardships of the people and as a responsible corporate citizen they saw the need to answer the call of the people.

She noted that the $50.000 will go towards the registration of the bridge which is essential to the community of Georgetown, the people north of the Rabacca Dry River and the continuing operation of the SVG Distillers.
