The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has received another shipment of building materials to be used in its various development programmes.

The material, valued at 4.5 million EC dollars, were purchased from the Jamaica-based Tank-Weld Group to aid in the Live to Live programme and the rebuilding of homes that were damaged in recent storms.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves told Reporters at Port Kingstown on Tuesday September 22, 2015, that the materials include lumber, galvanize sheeting, plywood, kitchen and bathroom furnishings.

Dr. Gonsalves said the Tank Weld Group has once again provided the materials under good financing terms.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves also assured Vincentians that the materials will be distributed in a fair and unbiased manner.

He said a needs assessment will be conducted to ensure that the materials are distributed on a priority basis.

Meanwhile, Minister of Housing, Montgomery Daniel guarantee that the Ministry of Housing will be moving swiftly and effectively to ensure that the poor and working class in St. Vincent and the Grenadines receive assistance in improving their living conditions.

Minister Daniel said the materials will be used to give persons the opportunity to improve their lives through improved housing; and Chairman of the board of the SVG Port Authority, Edwin Snagg, said the port is waiving all the charges which would normally be incurred during the clearance of materials.
