The Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves provided an overview of the status of the regional airline LIAT, during a Ministerial statement in Parliament this morning.
The overview was provided, following a meeting of the Shareholder Governments of LIAT, held in Barbados last week Wednesday October 19th.
The Prime Minister outlined the progress being made in relation to upgrading the fleet of aircraft. He stated that LIAT currently has nine aircrafts and on the 7th of November it will receive its tenth aircraft.

The Prime Minister also explained how the company went about disposing of the airline’s older aircraft and he said progress is also being made in streamlining the staff at LIAT.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Gonsalves, said there was a moderate performance in the national economy of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for the previous quarter up to the end of September 2016.

He gave the assessment while responding to a question on the country’s fiscal outturn during today’s sitting of parliament.

Dr. Gonsalves said the country recorded a 6.4 percent increase in revenue and grants for the previous fiscal quarter.

Dr. Gonsalves said there was a slight increase in expenditure for the previous quarter as compared to the corresponding period last year.
