From Our Ridges into the High Seas, Our Nation We Feed
That’s the theme for the 43rd anniversary of Fisherman’s Day celebrations, which will be officially launched here today and will take place at the Fisheries Division Conference Room, in Kingstown from ten this morning.
This year’s slogan is “Cleaner Reef, Healthy Fish To Eat”.
The Ministry of Agriculture said the theme and slogan were selected because 2018 was designated by the International Coral Reef Initiative as the third International Year of the Reef. This was done, in an effort to strengthen awareness globally about the value of the health of marine ecosystems, which are threatened by several land-use challenges.
A month of activities has been planned to commemorate the 43rd year of celebrations, culminating on Whit Monday, May 21, Fisherman’s Day.
