The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said it unequivocally condemns the vigilante-style beating of 41-year-old Businessman of Barrouallie, Paul Stephens, at the funeral of his deceased wife, Jetonia Thomas, which took place at the Chauncey Cemetery on Sunday May 27th, .

According to reports and a video that has been circulated on social media, Mr. Stephens was attacked and beaten by a group of persons, while his wife’s body was being laid to rest.

The Police said in a Media Release that this mob-style approach to justice is reprehensible and totally unlawful.

It said St. Vincent and the Grenadines is a country of laws and if any citizen feels aggrieved by the actions of another citizen, the right course of justice is to report the matter the police.

The Commissioner of Police, is encouraging the citizens of St. Vincent and the Grenadines not to take the law into their own hands, but rather to be law abiding citizens.

The incident comes on the heels of a similar incident on May 18, in Petit Bordel where a suspect in a sexual assault case was badly beaten.

Mr. Stephens has made a report to the police and currently four male suspects are assisting the Police in their investigations.
