It took the one-over eliminator to decide yesterday morning’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match between Trinbago Knight Riders and Guyana Amazon Warriors after the match ended in a tie at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis.

Guyana Amazon Warriors won the toss, decided to field first and restricted Trinbago Knight Riders to 138-9 off 20 overs. Colin Munro (32), Sunil Narine and Isuru Udana (21 each) were the main contributors to the innings. For Guyana Amazon Warriors, medium pacer, Romario Shepherd took 3-24 and off-spinner, Mohammad Hafeez captured 3-18.

Shimron  Hetmyer and captain, Nicholas Pooran with 27 each were the top-scorers for Guyana Amazone Warriors in their reply of 138-9 off 20 overs but it was Shepherd who hit 18 runs off 9 balls to enable his team to tie the match. It came down to Guyana Amazon Warriors needing 2 runs off the final delivery to seal a one-wicket win, but a run out while going for the second run, resulted in the tie.

Then came the Super Over decider. Guyana Amazon Warriors had to defend the 6 runs they scored in their Super Over. Again, Ramario Shepherd was the outstanding player. He dismissed Trinbago Knight Riders’ captain, Kieron Pollard for a first ball duck, then did not allow Colin Murray nor Tim Seifert to hit a boundary off his other 5 balls restricting them to 4 runs off the over. The final scores: Trinbago Knight Riders 138-9 off 20 overs, Guyana Amazon Warriors 138-9 off 20 overs. In the Super Over. Guyana Amazon Warriors 6 runs, Trinbago Knight Riders 4 runs.
