The St. Andrew Parish Chapter of the National Council of Women will collaborate with a network of local NGOs in the parish, to observe seven days of advocacy from tomorrow Tuesday November 19, which is observed annually as International Men’s Day.

A release from the Council says this year the day will be observed under the theme Keeping Men and Boys Safe.

The release noted that the gender socialization of men and women does not take much account of men’s aspirations and emotional needs, beyond headship and provider for the family.

It says as economic and social circumstances change, there is an increasing inability of many men to deliver according to the gender  roles assigned to them.

The result is often violent behavior, leading to broken bodies, minds and souls.  In this dilemma, women and girls are also victims of violence in all its forms.

The Council says International Men’s Day can provide an additional impetus to organisations with a high percentage of male membership to work on programmes that will address these issues.

The Seven Days of Advocacy will be held from tomorrow Tuesday November 19th which will be observed as International Men’s Day to Monday November 25th, the International Day to end Violence Against Women.
