Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said preliminary estimates show that this country sustained in excess of 350 million EC dollars in damage as a result of the Trough system which caused severe flooding on Christmas Eve.

He presented the figure at a news conference yesterday which coincided with a visit from the French Embassy and the Regional Council of Martinique, including its President Serge Letchemy.

Dr. Gonsalves explained that the preliminary figure is likely to increase further following damage assessments in other sectors.

Dr. Gonsalves said while the country’s infrastructure was severely affected, the agricultural sector suffered tremendous loss.
