The Lions Club St. Vincent South is hosting a team of Medical Specialists from the Avera McKennan Hospital in South Dakota, USA.

The visiting medical team is comprised of team leader Vincentian Dr. Stephen Nanton – Gastroenterologist; Gastrointestinal Technician- Debra White; Dr. Paul Benninga, Wendy Sue Welty and Joseph Douglas Welty – Nurse Anesthetists, Registered Nurse Tiffany Rae Facile, among others.

While here the team will be conducting free medical Gastro-Intestinal clinics to persons with gastrointestinal problems at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

Vincentians will be able to access the free clinics throughout the week at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

Through the efforts of the Lions Club St. Vincent South, Paul St. John and Dr. Nanton a modern and technological endoscopy service was established through which persons were able to seek treatment and attention for their upper and lower gastrointestinal tracts.

Dr. Nanton and his team were also instrumental in getting 18 year old Vincentian Shanice Morris to travel to the Avera McKennan Hospital in South Dakota to be treated for Crohn’s disease, when they performed an endoscopy and visualized findings which were consistent with Crohn’s disease last year when they visited as part of the mission.
