Police have launched an investigation into the incident where the Alter at the Sion Hill Anglican Church was set on fire on Friday.
Dean of the St. Georges Cathedral Father Patrick McIntosh says the altar was badly burnt, despite quick action by the cleaner to put out the fire.
Father MacIntosh is hoping that the person or persons involved will acknowledge what was done and be reconciled to God.
