Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has expressed sorrow on hearing of the tragic accident which occurred in North Windward area this morning.
A number of persons including school children are believed to have died in the accident, when a van, travelling from Fancy to Kingstown overturned and went into the sea in the Owia area.
In a statement on radio this morning, Dr. Gonsalves assured the nation that all the relevant personnel have been mobilized to provide medical attention to those affected and to continue to search for possible survivors.
The Prime Minister said the ceremonial opening of Parliament, which was scheduled to take place this afternoon, has been postponed until tomorrow.
