The Fisheries Division says it is currently working along with stakeholders in the Agricultural sector to have the Sea Weed currently lining the nation’s beaches, used as organic matter.
This statement was made by Chief Fisheries Officer, Jennifer Cruickshank Howard as she reiterated that there is no reason for Vincentians to be alarmed regarding the Sea Weeds.
Mrs. Cruickshank Howard stressed that while the Sea Weeds have both negative and positive effects, throughout the region there has been no reason for National Alarm, for citizens to worry about.
She said they are looking at having these Sea Weeds used as mulch and they are in discussions with Agricultural representatives in the community of Owia.
Mrs. Cruickshank Howard said that this is already being done in the Grenadines on Union Island.
