The Ministry of Transport and Works will host a ceremony this afternoon to mark the official opening of the Hope Bridge, which is said to be the longest bridge ever to be built here.

The Bridge was constructed by a Team of Army Corp Engineers from Ecuador, with funding from the Governments of Ecuador and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The ceremony will begin at 3:30 this afternoon and will include addresses from Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, as well as Representatives from the Government and the Ecuadorian Team.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport and Works Julian Francis said the new bridges represent a significant step in rehabilitating the country’s infrastructure, in the aftermath of the December 2013 Floods.

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the opening of a bridge in Plan, Chateaubelair on Thursday, Minister Francis urged residents to remember the dedication of the Ecuadorian Team.

Minister Francis said the Government has also expended significant resources to restore Feeder Roads in North Leeward.

Meanwhile in his address Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves highlighted the importance of maintaining infrastructure across the country.
