Deforestation In SVG Has Negative Impact On Marine Habitats

Lystra Culzac, Communication officer in the South Coast Marine Management Programme (SCMMP) says that deforestation is wreaking havoc with the marine environment.

Culzac, while discussing the issue of Marine Management, on NBC Radio’s “Views on Issues” Programme, said that the recent storms that affected this country have highlighted the issue of deforestation and it needs to be properly addressed.

She noted that long ago when there was heavy rain, the debris generally consisted of plant matter and a little plastic, but that now when the rivers burst their banks, it’s mainly Styrofoam that floods the ocean.
