A 23 year old national of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and a 29 year old Tobago man has appeared in a Tobago court charged with the murder of a British National and a Trinidad and Tobago National.

On Tuesday morning Vincentian Naajip Hills and Tobagonian Andre Romeo stood before a Scarborough Magistrate in the Scarborough Magistrate’s court.

The two men were charged with the murder of British born attorney Richard Wheeler and his wife Grace Wheeler sometime between Sunday and Tuesday last week.

The two were not called upon to plead since the charges were indictable.

Both men were construction workers with Hills said to have been living on the island for the past three years.

During the hearing, Hills alleged that police officers squeezed his genitals during interrogation. He also claimed that he was coerced by investigators to ignore his constitutional rights.

Police prosecutor Marvin Campbell denied the allegations.

The men were represented by Legal Aid attorneys. The Director of Public Prosecutions will be asked to assign a State Attorney when the matter comes up for hearing again on November 24th.
