Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves is appealing to Vincentian to follow guidelines set out in the General Elections Code of Conduct.

He made the appeal this week during the launch of the Code of Conduct, formulated by the National Monitoring and Consultative Mechanism and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Christian Council.

The Prime Minister’s petition is as a result of an incident which took place last Friday, involving supporters of the Unity Labour Party (ULP) and the New Democratic Party (NDP), which saw the pelting of bottles, and persons sustaining minor injuries.
He condemned the violence and cautioned against any further incidents.
The Objectives of the Code of Conduct are: The Fostering of Democracy, Promotion of Respect for Human Rights, Encouraging Participation in the Electoral Process and Promoting an election process free from violence.

The Code has twenty guidelines some of which stipulate that candidates should address themselves to issues and principles dealing with national growth, development and the real concerns of the people, that Candidates do not plagiarize or disparage the symbols, colors or acronyms of other parties.

Additionally, all parties are expected to work together with the police in maintaining law and order.
