The Ministry of Transport and Works is moving to carry out demolition work on the Ministerial Buildings adjacent to the General Post Office.

The buildings were gutted by fire in August last year, and last month an early morning fire broke out in the building which formerly housed the Treasury Department.

The buildings affected by the fire last year were the Old Treasury Building, and the buildings which formerly housed the Electoral Office and the Ministry of Social Development.

According to information from the Ministry of Transport and Works, the demolition work started last Saturday and would be ongoing for the next three months.

As a result, the Ministry says there would be no through way access to traffic coming into Kingstown from the St. Vincent Grammer School and Thompson Home, exiting on Egmont Street. In addition, no parking would be allowed between the areas of the Inland Revenue Department and the Registry.

This is to facilitate demolition of the buildings which formerly housed the Treasury, the Ministry of Social Development, the Government Printery and the Electoral Office.

The Ministry says the work would be carried out by R&R Construction

Pedestrians are being asked to use the walkway along the Postal Corporation.
