There were victories last weekend for Dragons and Titans in the Under-16 Division of the Vita Malt Bequia Basketball Championships at the Hard Court of the Clive Tannis Playing Field in Port Elizabeth.
In the Under-16 Division, Dragons defeated Titans 43-28, with Geovannie Miller with 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 steals, Cody Williams leading the scoring for Titans with 20 points, 20 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks.
Titans gained a 41-35 victory over Young Wizards. The leading scorer for Titans was Cody Williams with Cody Williams with 21 points, 17 rebounds, 1 assist, 5 steals, and 2 blocks, while Chadd James led the scoring for Young Wizards with 29 points, 17 rebounds, and 7 steals.
Dragons’ second victory of the weekend was their 38-24 defeat of Hornets. For Dragons, Geovannie Miller with 20 points, 13 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals, 2 blocks, with Jerez Joseph leading the scoring for Hornets with 11 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 5 steals, and 2 blocks.
Rising Stars defeated Blazing Heat 110-47 in the 2nd Division. Nicholas Lewis led the scoring for Rising Stars with 47 points, 25 rebounds, 6 assists, 10 steals, and 2 blocks. The leading scorer for Blazing Heat was Jovanni Derrick with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.
In the 1st Division, East Blazers and Wizards won matches.
East Blazers beat Raptors by the narrowest of margins, 68-67. Lamont Gordon topped the scoring for East Blazers with a game high 24 points, 16 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.
The leading scorer for Raptors was Kirsten Lampkin with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and 1 assist.
And, Wizards beat East Blazers 89-76 also in the 1st Division.
The scoring for Wizards was led by Brian O-FARI with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. For East Blazers, Jonas King with 18 points, 19 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block.
The Championships will continue tomorrow evening.
