The Garifuna Heritage Foundation has been applauded for its efforts in preserving the unique cultural identity of the Garifuna people.
The commendation came from Minister of Education Curtis King during the 12th International Garifuna Conference held yesterday at the University of the West Indies Global Campus.
Minister King said the Foundation’s advocacy for the recognition and acceptance of the Garifuna legacy, has been pivotal in bringing their culture to national consciousness.
The Minister said this year’s theme “Embracing our legacy – strategies to constructing the Garifuna component of a 2030 indigenous people’s development plan”, reminds us of the resilience and determination passed down from the Garifuna ancestors.
