Representative from the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Garifuna Heritage Foundation, Arsenio Mathews said the Foundation is working closely with the Ministry of Education to strengthen the work it is doing in schools across the country. This, in order to educate future generations about their cultural identity.

Mathews made the statement during the annual Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Obelisk in Dorsetshire Hill on National Heroes Day .

He said there is need for more teaching materials focused on the Garifuna Heritage and his organisation will deepen its work with the Ministry of Education, in this regard.

Mathews acknowledged the need for establishment of a museum, to further educate the Vincentian public about the country’s rich heritage.

Erection of a statue of National Hero Paramount Chief Joseph Chatoyer, is another goal in the Foundation’s sight.
