This country has moved one step closer to implementing the OECS Land Policy Project, with the establishment of a National Land Policy Committee.

The Committee, which is chaired by the Ministry of Housing, Informal Human Settlements, Lands & Surveys and Physical Planning, will act as the implementing agency for the project.

Project Co-ordinator at the OECS Secretariat in St. Lucia, Cornelius Isaacs said the OECS Secretariat has been concerned with the deterioration of land and marine resources in the region.

Mr. Isaacs said there are a number of policy documents in St. Vincent and the Grenadines which relate to land, but these need to be integrated into one cohesive policy.

The Project is aimed at achieving enhanced sustainable development in the OECS, through the formulation, adoption and implementation of comprehensive land policies.

It is being implemented by the by the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Secretariat, in collaboration with the Australian Government, the University of the West Indies and UN-Habitat.
