Jamaica-based hardware firm Tank Weld will be sending 1.6 million US dollars worth of building materials on concessionary terms to St. Vincent and the Grenadines to assist in the rebuilding effort.

According to a release from the company, this followed the destruction caused by flood rains here on Christmas Eve.

At a media conference on Monday, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves said over 400 houses were damaged during the torrential rains.
A Tank Weld vessel with the supply of materials will leave the company’s port at Rio Bueno, Trelawny on Friday, January 10th.

In addition, Tank Weld will be contributing 10 million Jamaican dollars to the rebuilding programme by paying half of the shipping costs.

This is the second time that Tank Weld is responding to an appeal from Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves to provide building material following disaster.

In 2010, following the onslaught of Hurricane Tomas, the company assisted this country with building materials and relief supplies.
Tank Weld is appealing to other Jamaican companies to assist the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
