The principal, staff, students and parents of the North Union Secondary School has responded overwhelmingly to a student’s cry for help.

Casran Hackshaw, a fourth form student of the North Union Secondary School was left homeless after the trough system last year washed away his entire home shared with this mom, Leotha Hackshaw, in South Rivers.

The school held an activity dubbed ‘Canfest’ where each student was asked to give at least one can of food, an item of stationery or toiletry in exchange for an impromptu entertainment package comprising songs and dances. Several boxes of items was collected.

Casron Hackshaw, through the school, will also be the recipient of a significant donation of US $1 000 towards the worthy cause from Paisley Boney and Family of Atlanta, Georgia, who were guests at the Sunrise Villa in Mustique when they learnt about the disaster. The family wanted to make a direct contribution to a student.

Odika Greene, Calees Williams and Caleesia Williams, all students of our school, also suffered minor loss during the disaster. A sum of four hundred and forty five dollars which was collected from the principal, staff and students will be shared among the students, to replace books and shoes that were destroyed.

The handing over ceremony will take place tomorrow at 10.30 am at the school.
