Destroy Mosquito Breeding Sites

Vincentians are again being encouraged to take the necessary steps to destroy mosquito breeding sites throughout the country, as the nation struggles to contain the spread of the chikungunya disease.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines is among a growing list of countries in the Eastern Caribbean, with confirmed cases of chikungunya, a virus similar to dengue, transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Chief Laboratory Technologist in the Ministry of Health, Claudette Laidlow-Williams said reducing the local mosquito population will dramatically reduce the spread of the chikun-gunya virus.

Mrs. Laidlow-Williams noted that while the vector remains present in the country, the possibility of chikungunya is imminent.
