Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said data suggests that some 3 to 4 percent of the population, representing up to four thousand people, will require surgical interventions with their eyes.
He was speaking at a ceremony yesterday, prior to the departure of fourteen Vincentians for Venezuela, where they will receive free eye surgeries under the Venezuelan-sponsored Miracle Mission Programme.
Dr. Gonsalves said in light of these figures, the government will continue to take a proactive approach to ensuring the health and well-being of the nations’ citizens.
Dr. Gonsalves also called on Vincentians to pay greater attention to their health.
