Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Commerce and Information Technology, Nathaniel Williams says St. Vincent and the Grenadines has a strong record of human rights.

Mr. Williams made the point during his remarks at the start of a capacity building workshop yesterday, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Conference Room.

The three day workshop is aimed at strengthening stakeholders’ knowledge on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

Mr. Williams notes that St. Vincent and the Grenadines has surpassed the minimum standard set for Human Rights, notwithstanding that better documentations are necessary to demonstrate this to the United Nations.

Mr. Williams points out that the three-day workshop would enable participants to better disseminate information about the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process and aid in properly addressing any related situation that may arise.

The Forum is focusing on regional Human Rights Mechanisms, and is also intended to review and plan joint activities that can contribute to effective implementation of the recommendations received during the 2011 Universal Periodic Review.
