The National Council of Women is continuing to spearhead a Home Gardening Project for residents in the Ottley Hall Community.

Forty women, fifteen men and fifty children are benefiting from the initiative, which is supported by the New Zealand High Commission Fund.

The project seeks to address good agricultural practices for home and backyard gardens, to facilitate the empowerment of the Women of the Ottley Hall Community, many of whom are single or stay-at-home Mothers.

The project is intended to encourage and assist the Women to get involved in backyard and container gardening. It is intended to promote an attitude and environment for healthy eating, to encourage good garden and environmental practices and to provide opportunities for income-generation and sustainability.

The project is being co-ordinated by Beverly Richards, President of the National Council of Women. Other members of the project committee are, Fitz Jones, Home Garden Facilitator, Conroy Huggins, Facilitator and Nutritionist, Joyce Burgin.
