The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been commended for implementing a ban on single-use plastics, which comes into effect on March 1st this year.
The commendation comes from Director at the Richmond Vale Academy, Stina Herberg. She said that the move represents a major step in the global thrust to protect and preserve the environment.
Miss Herberg said another important step would be a ban on the use of chemicals. Under the law, a person shall not import disposable plastic shopping bags from March 1, 2020 or disposable plastic food service containers from August 1, 2020.
It will also be illegal for a person to distribute, sell, or use disposable plastic shopping bags from August 1, 2020 or disposable plastic food containers from January 1, 2021.
